2025 will go down as another year 808 Genetics dropped a notable count of cutting-edge strains; so well worked that world renowned plants will be found from within these lines. Strains that will win awards and build brands.
Among others, we dropped a GMO BX4 menu, a GG#4 BX menu, and a Crippy BX6 menu. We also rolled out menus like Watermelon Rolex and Lemon Lipz, offering an extensive variety of terps. This year’s list of the most popular strains reflected a market dominated by not only gassy strains like GMO and GG#4, but also washers, like Chem D.
1. Deadhead Chem
Chem D x (Chem D x Chem 91 BX2)
This year Deadhead Chem took the #1 spot. It was flying off the shelf. Although we were not surprised it made the list, being the most popular was nice to see as this menu was in the works for 2+ years.

Historically, GMO, Runtz, and Sunset Sherbet crosses tend to regularly make the list. All of those are relatively newer strains, modern genetics, if you will. One of the goals of 808 Genetics is to not only progress strains, but to preserve them as well. We would consider this cross to be a preservation project as it’s not only a backcross, but also absent of any modern-day genetics.
Our Crippy BX6 menu dropped in September of 2025 and was a more limited menu, but it was interesting that, so far, the Pesto, our Chem D x Crippy BX6, outperformed everything on that menu including the Uranium, or Crippy BX7. Crippy backcrosses have dominated the menu since being released for the last 5 years. That tells us Chem D is making a comeback.
2. Black Garlic
GMO x (Chem D x Chem 91 BX2)
Black Garlic is not only popular on paper, but the feedback from the community is 100% positive reviews. People are hyped on this one. Chem is a parent of GMO, so by crossing the GMO mother back to Chem, it made something really special. Next level terps. Potent medicine. Checking all the boxes. Most of our Chem crosses will be excellent washers with high returns and savory terps that linger on the palette.
3. 4×4
GMO BX4 x GMO BX4
4×4 is a fun one. We are never surprised when GMO crosses make the list as it’s just that popular. There’s no question about it. What surprised us this year was that we made a GMO BX5 and 4×4 outperformed it by quite a large margin. Our GMO BX4, called OMG Burger, is our most popular strain of all time, it’s won awards and is ran by several well-known brands, so we thought the OMFG Burger would have made the list, but it didn’t. The 4×4 did.

4. Boujee Runtz
Runtz BX2 x Runtz BX3
Boujee Runtz was the 4th most popular strain this year and outperformed the 808 Runtz, our Runtz BX4, which actually came in at the #6 spot. Runtz is another really popular strain, but at this point, Sugar Titz, our Runtz BX2 is known as being better than the original Runtz, which has been told to us by big brands like Raw Genetics. And the numbers prove that to be true. Just like people like their GMO, people like their Runtz.
5. Supa Glue
Gorilla Glue #4 x Gorilla Glue #4 BX
Last but certainly not least, Supa Glue rounds out the most popular strains of the year list. This strain was released at the end of May (2025) and still made it in the top 5. Being a Gorilla Glue #4 BX2, we are predicting this strain will be one of the most popular strains of all time (stay tuned for that article). It yields big, is easy to grow, is a great washer, is medicinally effective, and is plain and simple, fire green weed. What’s not to love?

2025: The Year Of Gas
Look at the genetic lineages of the most popular strains of the year for 2025. Minus Boujee Runtz, which does have gas, but not upfront, it was a year of GAS; offensively terpy and cravingly effective varieties.
Of the top 5 strains, two were GMO crosses, one Chem D BX, one Runtz BX2 cross, and one GG#4 BX2. This year we saw an increased interest in washing strains as every strain on this list is great for concentrates.
With our recent Watermelon Rolex drop and the upcoming Lemon Lipz menu drop (end of Nov) we will see what next year holds. Our selected cut of Lemon Lipz was just dubbed the best terps of 2025. We tend to think fruity washers will dominate next year’s list as that seems to be the direction the market is headed, but only time will tell.
