Most Popular Strain Off All Time GMO BX4 Gets Its Own Menu March 2025

GMO crosses have consistently landed on our top strains of the year list; they’re a longtime favorite of our amazing customer base. (And a favorite of ours, too!) On top of that fact, OMG Burger, our GMO BX4, is our top selling strain of all time; grown in Hawaii, throughout the U.S., and all the way in Thailand. Solid reviews are coming in from all across the world. Working this line further was a no-brainer, so getting ready to drop this month (March 2025) is our entire OMG Burger menu including our GMO BX5.

What Is The Goal Of Backcrossing?

Since we do not release our original clone-only mothers, backcrosses are a great way to get something as close to those clone-only mothers as possible. You should even find something better than the original from the work put in. We really enjoy our Crippy BX3 and GMO BX4, for example, and find ourselves questioning if they’re better than the original all the time.

Whenever we work on a backcross, we like to select a male that, when crossed back to the original mother plant, will create offspring identical to her. To do this we select a male that has 80% or more similar characteristics to the mother. This ensures that the characteristics of whatever strain is being backcrossed will be preserved in seed form and available for others to enjoy.

Our research has shown that up to a BX4 will create 2-3 different phenos. One like the mother, one like the father, and one that is a mix between the two. Once you get past a BX4 you start seeing more consistency with only 2 different phenos. We have taken our Animal Cookies to a BX5 and our Crippy to a BX6, and find most of the phenos are identical to the mother visually, however, are more vigorous and easier to grow, often with the terps turned up more.

If you’re wanting a blend of two particular strains, let’s say GMO’s washability and garlic funk with a candy gas profile along with a shorter stretch and a faster finishing time, you would want it paired with a strain like Runtz or Sunset Sherbet. Having a heavily worked backcross male ensures you’ll see lots of 50/50 phenos that will lean to one parent or the other, which allows for completely new profiles to exist, increasing your chance of finding exactly what you’re wanting, or perhaps something you never even knew you wanted. Although dependent on the strain, in original F1 polyhybrids, typically the mother’s traits will dominate a cross while you’ll have to really know what you’re looking for to see the father’s contributions.

The Stud

The male we selected had that raunchy garlic terpene profile as good or better than the GMO mother. We were excited to find him. In addition to having several characteristics we were looking for, the stem rub on him solidified him as being the winning male.

We hunted more than 5 packs over the course of 2 years for this project, to find that perfect male. We knew the only way to properly create a backcrossed line is to be extremely selective and knowledgable with the mother plant to become familiar with what characteristics like structure and terpene profile to look for when selecting a male. Our GMO BX4 male had beautiful red coloring on his flowers, enviable structure, and an enhanced terp profile. We expect a lot of popular strains to come from this line.
