GG#4 Still A Top 5 Strain Of All-Time A Decade After Its Release

When thinking of the top strains of all-time in the gas category, Crippy, OG Kush, GMO, and Chem D are often placed at or near the top of the list. However, there is another strain that has been getting slightly overlooked in recent years that should be in the conversation – and it’s Gorilla Glue #4. GG#4 is an award-winning cultivar that has definitely secured a spot in the gas category and is considered by many to be in the top 5 strains of all-time. Some even put it in the top 3.

The clone-only cut of Gorilla Glue #4, grown by 808 Genetics under LED lights

Here at 808 Genetics, we love the GG#4 and have been growing it since 2012. Our cut was sourced from the legend Josie Whales himself, who is credited to first finding and selecting the GG#4. Since we started releasing seeds in 2019, we noticed that GG#4 crosses got slept on a little bit, moving slower than several other terp profiles we have available, which surprised us – until recently. A big reason GG#4 was slept on was because an Instagram user called Unknown Prophet created a Gorilla Glue #4 S1 and phenohunted over 130 seeds. By doing so, he selected and released a Gorilla Glue #4 S1 stunt double, which is what most people got, disappointing them when it didn’t live up to the hype. We have been trying to tell people how great the clone-only cut of GG#4 is. When you get the real GG#4, you know; it’s unforgettable.

What’s So Great About It?

From a consumer’s perspective, it’s the smell of it, that classic gassy aroma that, simply put, smells like the dank. It’s lime green and frosty, producing great bag appeal, and its effects initiate deep couch sitting and a ferocious appetite. It’s perfect for someone looking for pain relief or a solution to insomnia. From a grower’s perspective, it’s easy to grow, not sensitive to water or nutrients, is easy to clone, has a quick veg time, and yields well. All around, Gorilla Glue #4 is a plant that’s hard not to love.

Our GG#4 BX menu contains a collection of iconic mothers used to create new favorites

We just released our first GG#4 BX2 menu at the end of May (2025). With mothers like White Widow, Kauai Electric, and Chem D, this menu will create unforgettable crosses. It is also the first time we’ve released a GG#4 BX2. A lot of times, the BX2 ends up being the favorite of our customer base because there is a perfect mix of new phenos and phenos just like the original mother.

The Male

We often like to backcross strains a few different ways, to give ourselves and the cannabis community different options when it comes to the outcross, especially when planning to work it to a BX4 or beyond. Some people, for example, prefer backcrosses that don’t have Cookies in it, while others want it in there for the increased density, bag appeal, and ease of trimming.

Our selected GG#4 BX male

With a strain like Gorilla Glue #4, we decided to outcross it to Crippy because on top of them both being older strains, both have gassy terp profiles and both are known for their potency. The selected male for this breeding project was from our Arkenstone seed stock. This menu ended up producing over 8 lbs of seed.

Our GG#4 BX male had great color, resin production, and structure

The male we selected looked just like the mother, which is always a goal of ours when we create a backcross. It had huge tops and will pass on great yield to all of its offspring. It also had that gorgeous lime green color and gleaming silver resin.

Our GG#4 BX male will pass along ideal traits to create unforgettable crosses
