We recently received an email from a customer trying to locate the real Crippy. We get so many emails about this strain, and receive a lot of similar testimonials from people around the world once they experience our Crippy, that we wanted to share one of them.
“Aloha 808 Team!
Thank you for your kind words and your reply! I did have a question about Crippy but it was answered…
Get this!…

The legendary 1986 Crippy cut
I went to High School in Puerto Rico, my family is from Cuba, though. Castro took our family’s land after the revolution, so my father emigrated to the states in 1959. I was born and raised in NYC and my older brother married a Puerto Rican girl whose father owned some restaurants in Puerto Rico. My neighborhood wasn’t the best in New York, so my father sent me to live with my brother; they moved down there as well.
I care for my father full time now. I did for my mother as well, but sadly she passed in 2019. Cannabis brought my father back from the dead. He had a medical emergency last February that caused him to lose weight…the morphine that they had me administer to him didn’t really help him, so I told his doctor I would give him some of my herb to help with his appetite. The docs gave him a medical card and he was discharged from in-home hospice last October because he started gaining weight again and he wasn’t having any more pain in his body.

Crippy = Hawaiian Webbed Leaf Indica x (Pakistani x Highland Thai)
I used cannabis when I had stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer 13 years ago for my health and that managed to convince him to try it. (He’s 90 and saw Reefer Madness when he moved to the States in the 50’s.) I’ve been running Type II and Type III selections for him, as well as some for me, as we are all allowed 6 plants per medical card.
In Puerto Rico we smoked regs mostly, nickel and dime bags, really up until Crippy appeared on the scene. That was all I smoked until I left Puerto Rico for Miami in 1995…where I smoked Crippy a couple of more times, until I lost that connection and I would just consume whatever we could get. I will say it was a little different than the Puerto Rico one; now I know that it’s because of the different environments.
Anyhow, my buddy’s older brother was a grower (and a surfer) who would go from Puerto Rico to Miami to Hawaii when he could. I never thought I would smoke that variety again, thinking it was lost to time…until I came across you folks!! I can’t remember how I did, it could’ve been a FSOTD episode…regardless, it was somewhere on YouTube, but my eyes and ears perked up when I heard you guys speak about Crippy.

Crippy is loved for its nostalgia, medicinal qualities, and gassy terpene profile
I found your site and had difficulties finding a pack. My original email was hoping that you guys had a couple of more packs in the back stock because after I saw the pictures on that blog post, I sent those to my friend’s older brother and he went into his old 35mm pictures to compare the flower and the leaf morphology of the variety he grew in the 90s!!! There were some minor differences, but for the most part, it was a 98 percent match!! Turns out his mentor sourced a cut from Hawaii and shared it with my friend’s brother!!
I have spent the last 3 months stocking up on beans because of the ban that’s coming up in November. Let’s just say that the varieties I planned to run this summer cycle have all been benched!!!! I am putting your beans to the front of the class!!!
Anyway, I figured you’d get a kick out of the story. I was curious how long the wait time would’ve been but I hadn’t seen what you had written in the contact form saying it was 3-4 weeks for delivery. You can’t rush perfection, so it will take as long as it needs to take! The harvest in October is going to be memorable for me. Thank you guys so much!!!
Mahalo”
Hawaii’s Role In The History Of Cannabis
Especially back in the day, but also today, many strains got from place to place on travelers like surfers who were passionate about searching for the best waves and also high quality cannabis. A lot of times, seeds, flower, and cuts would get transported in surf board bags and was shared amongst a tight knit community.
Hawaii is one of the top surfing and vacation destinations in the world, so a lot of different people regularly visit. This is just one of many ways cannabis has made its way from one side of the globe to the other. These stories are part of what helped not only create the market that we know today, but helped preserve the genetics from a time when cannabis was primarily underground.
