Strawberry Cherry Pie Comes In 1st Place At The Culture Cup Qualifier 2025

Strawberry Cherry Pie just came in first place at The Culture Cup (@theculture_cup207) qualifier held on June 1, 2025. It was entered as hash by Breakwater Cannabis, a high quality cultivation facility out of New Jersey with two dispensary store fronts. The main event will be held in August of this year (2025). 

Breakwater has been growing and washing this pheno for over two years. They said, “It typically does 3.5 to 4%.” While considered a moderate return percentage for a washer, the terps are what keep this pheno in rotation, testing at 8%. It has “deep green, purple tipped flowers covered in trichomes with aromas of black cherry soda, tropical fruit punch, and unmistakable cherry pie.” From what we’ve read on their IG page (@breakwater_cannabis), the flower sells out the day it drops and is also available as hash, carts, and even canna-infused beverages. Many of their customers say it’s their favorite flower.

According to John, the Senior Grower/Grow Team Leader/Solventless Hash Lead at Breakwater, he said, “Just finished up a hunt of some of your genetics and was again left in complete shock. Your selection and breeding process is masterful and it has been a dream to make in-house selections for our company from your work! I’ve been having great success with your gear and love your dedication to the craft and all the wild flavor profiles you have been releasing over the years. Strawberry Cherry Pie is a special one to me, and I have the Sugarloaf Pineapple and Ice Cream Bananaz in the pipeline.”

Strawberry Cherry Pie is a cross of the Bay Area legend Cherry Pie and Raw Genetics’ Strawberry Runtz. The Strawberry Runtz male was selected by 808 Genetics and used in a breeding project that created a lot of stand out crosses, like Sugar Titz and Peanut Butter Jelly Breath. That menu dropped in April of 2021. Breakwater’s pheno appears to be a nice mix of both Cherry Pie and Strawberry Runtz, with that signature color and serrated leaf from the Cherry Pie and the bud structure and resin production from the Strawberry Runtz.

We were excited to hear about a Cherry Pie cross winning a hash qualifier against strains like Peanut Butter Breath, Key Lime Pie, and Blue Zushi, some of the mothers we have and work with, and amongst other well-known breeders’ gear as well. There were 75 entries, or 25 at each of the 3 tables, submitted into this competition and the Strawberry Cherry Pie was the only hash that scored over 1,400 points, at 1,420, with second place coming in at 1,384, a difference of 36 points. The winner from each of the 3 tables qualified for the main event. Those winners ended up being Strawberry Cherry Pie with a score of 1,420, Chem 13 with 1,384, and Zkittles with 1,324.

On one hand, we were surprised to hear a Cherry Pie cross was entered as hash as it typically does not return as well as other strains we work with, however, knowing the terp profile within the Cherry Pie made it not too surprising. Cherry Pie crosses have been extremely popular on the East Coast of the U.S., especially in New York City and New Jersey, for the past few years.
